Defiant and vulnerable, Amy Campbell brings together classical training and folk sensibilities to create music that reaches into human experience and comes back with stories written from the soul. Her voice strong and conversational, her lyrics allow listeners to relive their own losses through the cushion of distance. After years with a band, she has released her debut solo album Architecture: Live At The Opera House through her own label BattleAxe Folk. Compelling and raw live performances, her songs are 95% guaranteed to break your heart.Campbell's music is currently being played on local mainstream and indie stations, and a handful of her tracks were recently in the top ten (including the number one spot) on the Toronto-Based Rismix Live. She was featured as indie artist of the week on CBC’s popular Definitely Not the Opera, and has just been added to the roster of both Netscape and AOL radio. Her song “Satellite” has been included on two internationally released compilations: Voices for V-Day (February 2004) and Don’t Mind Me, Independent Artists for a Better Understanding of Mental Illness (September 2004).Architecture has been enjoying excellent critical reception, with favourable reviews in Herizons, Eye Weekly, Now Magazine, Rismix Live, Estrogen Nation, Mote Magazine and Intimate Audio; as well as coverage in Halifax’s The Coast, The Chronicle-Herald and The Daily News (HFX). Campbell has made appearances on several local television and radio programs, including Maritime Noon (Global), Route 104 (Q104) and CBC shows Mainstreet and as a featured artist on Atlantic Airwaves, as well as a studio session in The Freewheeling Folk Show on CFMU.With a strong following that voted her best local female solo artist in Halifax's Reverb Magazine, Campbell has been playing regularly across Nova Scotia for several years, from the smoky basement of Hell's Kitchen, to the Stan Rogers Folk Festival. She has fit nicely onto stages with Bruce Cockburn, Jann Arden, Lennie Gallant, and Ember Swift. Campbell has just finished a successful solo tour of Ontario, and a Maritime tour with fellow songwriter Emm Gryner. This fall will bring another month-long tour Ontario, Quebec, and the eastern United States, including Ladyfest East in New York; and an appearance as the special guest to The Scrappy Bitch Tour at the Halifax Pop Explosion.
