Born and raised in Arnprior, in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, Michael played his way through high school in Ontario and Quebec border towns. He toured for a few years with various bands and then headed for Toronto and the "big time."Spent 5 years at U of T (played almost every nite for tuition and pub money) and started writing his own acoustic material. He played every acoustic joint he could find, signed a publishing deal out of Nashville, hosted open mics, played festivals and participated in songwriting workshops in both Canada and the USA. In Toronto he's played Hugh's Roomand the Free Times Cafe as well as numerous other acoustic rooms. He's also played at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe and the famed Sons of Hermann hall in Dallas Texas. Laderoute has also traded songs with notable writers such as Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark and once kicked Steve Earle to make him shut off his cell phone while he was trying to listen to Gillian Welch sing at Nashville's once famous Summer Lights music festival. His first home grown CD, "A River I Know" has been 23 years in the making and is selling well in North America and Europe.
It was recorded and mixed at the end of January 2005. Produced by David Baxter, it's a totally acoustic, live off-the-floor project where Michael, Bax and Bazil Donovan sat around The Rogue studio for 4 or 5 days and played 'till they got 10 tunes that sounded okay. Fiddle, dobro, mando and harmony vocals were added later.Currently, the CD is available through cdbaby.com or at live shows. Laderoute will also come over to your place for $15.99 + tax, and play for 37 minutes.Laderoute can be found most nites, at home, picking and singing in his living room in front of his Fostex VF80 and sipping on a beer and a reposada tequila.Oh ya . . . he likes to go fishing now and then. |
