SONGWRITERS UNITE!: AN OCFF STORY from Jason Romolo on Vimeo.

The film provides a glimpse into the performances and sense of community that you will experience while walking the halls at The Ontario Council of Folk Festivals annual conference. It is a story of artists of all ages coming together to play, sing, and collaborate in an environment of total acceptance.

Interested in playing at Songwriters Unite! ? Here's what you need to do...

Join Songwriters Unite!

Send an email to producer Russell Leon at russell@songwritersunite.com.

You must submit a sample of your work. MP3s on the web or via email are best. Demo CDs/Tapes are ok as well (email for snail-mailing instructions). There's no need to send a promotional package, just your music.
You must be a member of Songwriters Unite! in order to perform at any of the Songwriters Unite! shows.

Watch for the upcoming opportunities

Songwriters Unite! events are listed on the website. Regular bulletins are sent out via email to all Songwriters Unite! members detailing current performance opportunities.  If you are interested in performing, just send an email reply and – if there is still space – you will be booked and confirmed (also via email).  On occasion, Songwriters Unite! members will be contacted individually (on basis of merit and audience/venue interest) for concert opportunities.

Some of our ongoing projects include:

Graffiti’s Monthly Showcase

This event takes place every month at Graffiti’s, 170 Baldwin Street in Kensington Market and starts at 9 p.m. It is a pay-what-you-can event and proceeds go to the upkeep of the website, promotion, and production costs. For this event eight artists each perform four original songs. Interested in performing? Let producer Russell Leon know one month ahead of time and be sure that you can bring at least 5 fans with you to the show.

Theme shows

These events revolve around a chosen theme. Themes are announced on the
Songwriters Unite! website and via the email bulletins.  Participating artists are required to write one NEW song based on the announced theme. One of the primary goals of the Songwriters Unite! Theme Show is to inspire NEW compositions!

Once the NEW song is done, just email the lyrics to our producer, Russell, at russell@songwritersunite.com. Artists are chosen based on their submitted NEW song lyrics. The lineup will be announced via the email list and on the website.

Festivals, Showcases and other concert opportunities

Songwriters Unite! participates in many performance events. Songwriters Unite! has showcased at Toronto’s ‘Winterfolk Festival’ since 2004. The Distillery District’s ‘Singer/Songwriter Festival’ has hosted Songwriters Unite! for the past two years. Songwriters Unite! was featured at the first annual ‘Toronto Songwriters’ Festival’ at Hugh’s Room. Performers for these and other events are chosen for their musicianship and professionalism.
